Morning Journaling
Since around mid-March, I've started a new morning routine for myself. I've been journaling every morning in an attempt to calm my mind before the start of the day. I get up, walk Tess, pour myself a cup of coffee and put my thoughts to paper.
I currently use a Moleskine-like lined notebook although I'm planning on switching to a dotted soft cover LEUCHTTURM1917 as I've used them for my nighttime journaling. When I started, I wasn't sure if this was a habit I was going to pick up, or if it would end up being something that lasted a couple weeks and then went to the wayside so I started with a notebook that was used as a scratchpad I kept next to me. Four and a half months later, I'm now mostly through the notebook and see this as a habit that has stuck.
So what do I write? Well each day I track my weight, sleep, screen time, and exercise. I also keep track of whether I stuck to my macronutrient goals for my diet, and whether I wrote, played my guitar, and doodled, three things that I've been trying to do on a daily basis. I then write two pages worth of what I'm thinking, what I hope to accomplish that day, and anything else that comes to mind. I find it calming and relaxing to put pen to paper. It's almost cathartic to write and it's something that typing just doesn't match.
My journaling habit has now grown to twice a day and I have no regrets.
If you journal, do you journal in the morning? Evening? Both? What do you write about?
