Going to Give a Local Sci-Fi Book Club a Try

I recently wrote about wishing book clubs would work for me. I’m still not entirely sure they will, but I happened to notice that my local independent bookstore has a sci-fi book club and that they recently read Children of Time. I was actually kind of sad missed that one as I loved that book, and the series as a whole so far as I’m reading the fourth book in the series, Children of Strife. I happened to notice that May’s book is Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View. Being a Star Wars fan, it piqued my interest and since the library had it, I figured why not?

So I’ll be giving it a try. I started the book the other night and enjoyed the few stories I read so far. The book club meets on the 24th, and I have the book checked out for two weeks, so I should be able to make it.

The downside is it will again cause me to pause reading Children of Strife, which is what has caused me to be reticent of joining any. I like being able to go through my backlog, however crookedly, and don’t always feel like I can squeeze in others. I don’t like reading too many books at one time since the concern of course is that I’m going to lose track of the plot and/or plot points in one or all of them while I bounce back and forth. This might also be a good test though since the Star Wars book is a collection of short stories rather than one long book, and it’s kind of about a movie I know and love.

I'm not sure how this is going to go, but after writing that last post, and seeing that the books that book have read had some overlap I started thinking that maybe I could try it once or twice and see how I can fit it into my reading habits. Stay tuned.
