April 2026 Check-In
April was a busy month. It seemed like every weekend something was going on. It wasn't necessarily bad, just felt like I hardly got time to rest. The weather has also been all sorts of crazy jumping between freezing and almost 90ยบF. Where's my spring weather where I can sit out on the porch in the evening.
Cape May
Like we so often do, we went to Cape May for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. Outside some rain on Sunday, it was beautiful weather and was a nice relaxing trip. We stopped at some wineries and breweries, walked around town and the beach, and generally had a good time. Even when we just sat out on Congress Hall's Veranda and read with a drink, it was enjoyable.
Alton Brown
After watching Good Eats and following Alton's YouTube channel, it was nice to see that he was doing some live shows near us. My wife and I drove out to Lancaster to see him and it was a fun, interesting show. It was a little informative, little demonstrative (ever make ice cream with fire extinguishers?), and entertaining. He doesn't do shows all that often, but I'd highly recommend it.
Hockey Ends & Starts Up
My one hockey league's season ended, but the other picked back up. I'm now back to playing on three teams so I've been busy skating. I did end up getting a hat trick in the one game. I don't score very often so it was nice to see my name up on the scoresheet for a change. As of today, the Bombers (the team I captain) are 4-0 and looking improved from last season. It's only the quarter mark of the season, but it's a good start.
Always Something with the House
First it's the yard work and clearing out the trees around the side of the house from the years of neglect, then it's the oven element needing replacement, then it's the faucet handle in our bathroom sink breaking, it's always something. I know I should count myself fortunate to have a house to call my own, but sometimes I'd appreciate some of these "must-fix" tasks would spread themselves out some.
