Week Notes forAugust 16 - 22 (#112)
It was a week with several hockey games, a lot of running, and an awesome book event.
End of the Hockey Season
I-League ended with our consolation game Monday night. We ended up winning 4-3 with some strong play on both offense and defense. My play in net wasn't bad, but I wanted 2 of the 3 goals I allowed back.
The Bombers made the playoffs and we won the quarterfinals game 3-2 in the fading seconds. We hoped we could take the momentum of that into Wednesday's game against the top-seeded team, but sadly lost 5-2. We played hard and we kept ourselves in it, but couldn't claw back the deficit. It was a good season and I feel like we made some strides as a team this season that we can hopefully carry over to next season.
Lots of Runs
I've been again putting off lifting weights, and instead have put on my running shoes. Even with the three hockey games, I ended up running 20 miles this week. Keeps the blood flowing.
Dark Ink, Chuck Wendig & Clay McLeod Chapman
On Friday Night, Lauren and I drove out to Doylestown for the start of the Dark Ink events put on by the Doylestown Bookshop. Chuck Wendig and Clay McLeod Chapman were there for the release of their new books. Chuck just released The Calamities, and Clay just released Devil Inside.
I've been a fan of Chuck Wendig's after reading Black River Orchard in 2023, and his two books, Wanderers and Wayward are among my favorites. I saw him last year with Clay for the release of The Staircase in the Woods and the two of them were hilarious. It actually got me to pick up a few of Clay's books, and I enjoyed them as well.
So when both were coming back for a dual book release event, we got tickets and made a date night out of it. Dinner at a bar in Doylestown followed by some book shopping at an independent book store, then a fun author event...count me in! Chuck and Clay were funny and interesting and now I have several more of their books...and they're signed. Fun way to end the work week.
