June 2026 Check-In
It was a busy-ish June. Fortunately it did include a nice little vacation in the middle of the month.
New York City
In the middle of the month, my wife and I ventured up to New York City for my birthday as has become tradition. We were a little more subdued this trip as we didn't really do any of the typical NYC things like go see a show or museum. Our hotel was right by Bryant Park so we enjoyed peaceful mornings with a coffee and a pastry reading there. It was a great way to spend the morning.
The afternoons were generally spent wandering the city. We visited some book stores in the Upper West Side, went into Long Island City for some breweries, and enjoyed ourselves. We ended up watching a lot of World Cup games and was even able to catch a few Phillies games on TV since they were playing the Mets.
Health Push
As I mentioned in my week note, I'm going to be making a push to fix my diet as it's gotten a little out of line with my goals. It's been going mostly well so far, I've been eating better, working out regularly and have seen some small results on the scale. More work to go of course, but a good start.
Training to be a Database Developer
The company I work for is doing some reorganization and is moving to make us developers more full-stack developers. This means that I'm going through training to learn more about database development. I've been learning more about indexes, and how Microsoft SQL Server handles query optimization and building query execution plans. It's a lot to wrap my head around, but I'm learning a lot and I'm actually a little excited to be learning some new skills and additional understandings of SQL.
